You should try and practice everyday! Once a week is great, along side other forms of exercise i.e. walking, swimming, Pilates. Consistent practice is the key to unlocking the magic of Yoga. The Conscious Birth manual is available to purchase enabling you to practice at home.
Do I have to be flexible to do yoga?
Absolutely not! You will experience benefits to your body, mind and emotions regardless of how flexible you are. Everyone has different levels of flexibility and I work within your level. The strength and flexibility of your body will increase gradually with practise. The more you practise yoga, though, the deeper you will access certain parts of your body, stimulating stagnant energy in those parts, and bringing an overall feeling of health and vitality. Stagnant energy is the source of disease and stress.
Is yoga Religious?
Yoga traditionally is a way of life that acknowledges that we are all connected, we are all One and we are connected to a Divine energy. However, it s not a religious practice, and doesn’t enforce any dogma or require you to change your current beliefs. Yoga will invite you to open your mind, to realize that you are awesome, and to come to live in your personal power and joy.
Why do we chant in the class?
The chants may be in English, Gurmukhi, and even in Zulu. Aside from drawing us into a sacred mood, chanting can harmonize brain chemistry via the stimulus through the upper palate. Chanting draws you closer in toward yourself; it helps to disconnect all the hooks that are still attached to you physically or psychically from the day. Chanting helps settle the ego so that you can practise yoga with integrity to your body and not to your mind's desires.
